Modern technology gives us many things.

Apple just had a huge quarter in a slowly recovering Chinese smartphone market

It was apparently that line of high-end iOS devices launched in late 2022 that almost single-handedly propelled the company to the top spot in China between January and March 2023, ξεπερνώντας την πρώην (και νυν) ασημένια ολυμπιονίκη Oppo και την πρώην πρωταθλήτρια για να επιτύχει μερίδιο 19,9% όλων των περιφερειακών πωλήσεων.
That's right, Apple just finished the first quarter of last year in third place in the world's largest smartphone market, with a 17,9% slice of the pie boosted by a healthy 2% with the crucial help of its discounted iPhone 14 series prices compared with the 4th quarter of 2022.
Of course, Apple surpassed Chinese smartphone shipments in the last three months of last year, but that was hardly unexpected. What was slightly more unusual was to see iPhone sales in the region decline from Q4 2021 in a very difficult economic environment.

This time around, Apple's shipment numbers are also up, and while 6% year-over-year progress doesn't exactly sound monumental, it was enough to set new nine-year and eight-year records for Q1 share and Q1 respectively.

This is an especially remarkable achievement when you consider that overall Q1 Chinese smartphone shipments fell by 5% between 2022 and 2023, which is… actually not a bad result. In fact, the market is starting to recover after a pretty horrible last quarter, and the Q2 drop could be even smaller.

Another interesting statistic not visible in this chart above is the 227% (!!!) year-over-year increase in sales of , which apparently helped Oppo maintain its second place position and keep those overall losses in the single digits.
