The Morning After: Microsoft hires recently fired OpenAI CEO Sam Altman
OpenAI's board of directors announced Friday that it has fired CEO Sam Altman. But he's doing well. By Monday morning, he had joined the Microsoft "to lead a new advanced artificial intelligence research group," according to the company.
Altman founded OpenAI with Elon Musk in 2015 as a nonprofit and has served as CEO of the for-profit arm since 2019. He was initially fired from OpenAI due to a "breakdown in communication between Sam and the board," according to an insider. staff memorandum. Several key members also resigned, including co-founder Greg Brockman (who will now also join Microsoft) along with some senior researchers. "Dozens" of OpenAI employees have reportedly announced internally that they will also be leaving, with some expressing interest in joining a potential new Altman startup.
According Bloombergthe board reportedly considered overturning Altman's firing, though the ousted executive wanted the existing board to resign and publicly apologize — and I fully support all of this drama if it's true.
However, the company did not apologize.

A double explosion occurred during the test.
