Modern technology gives us many things.

Here are Bethesda's strange responses to negative Steam reviews on 'Starfield'.

Starfield continues to be a hot topic among its defenders and detractors, but this what I didn't realize was that Bethesda was same to you i'll be bashing for the game somewhat stealthily, trying to change one hater's mind at a time.

I just realized the fact that since its release, Bethesda developers have been going to Steam and responding to individual negative reviews about Starfield with counter arguments or suggestions on how to get people to like it.

This…isn't as careful as it sounds, as looking at these, which are still posted as of this week, there are really only a few copy-paste templates used to address different stated issues with the game.

Here's part of what Bethesda says if a user says the game is boring with empty planets, clearly telling them "that's not boring, were the astronauts on the moon bored?"

“Thank you for taking the time to submit your review and we are sorry that you did not enjoy your time at Starfield. If you feel like things are getting boring, there's a lot more to do than the main quest!”

“Some of Starfield's planets are meant to be empty by design – but that's not boring. “When the astronauts went to the moon, there was nothing there. They certainly weren't bored." Starfield exploration is intended to evoke a sense of smallness in players and make you feel overwhelmed. You can keep exploring and find worlds that have resources you need or hidden outposts to see.”

If you're complaining about its story or that it's not as good as previous Bethesda games, you get this:

“We're sorry you didn't enjoy your time at Starfield. Our team is constantly working to ensure that Starfield is a fun and polished experience.

You can spend time exploring various planets for resources and items. You can also break the law by smuggling and selling contraband, create your own outposts and starships and customize them to your enjoyment, exploration and role-playing. There are many things to do and explore.

There are so many levels in Starfield, you'll find things you never knew were possible after playing for hundreds of hours. Even after completing the Main Story, your adventure doesn't end! You can continue to New Game+ to continue exploring the Starfield and all that is out there! We are still actively working on this game and will be for a long time to come.”

I think this is the third and final mod still being published, mainly responding to complaints about the game:

“Thank you for taking the time to leave a review for Starfield!

You can fly, you can shoot, you can mine, you can loot! Starfield is an RPG with hundreds of hours of missions to complete and characters to meet. Most quests will also vary depending on και τις αποφάσεις του χαρακτήρα σας, αλλάζοντας σε μεγάλο βαθμό το αποτέλεσμα του παιχνιδιού σας. Βάλτε πό on different skills than a character you've previously created and now you're faced with completely different decisions and difficulties to deal with.”

While like I said, I'm a big defender of Starfield, I will say that's not the way to go about it, basically copying and pasting marketing text into a bunch of negative reviews instead of responding in a meaningful way. If you're not going to ask someone to write something thoughtful instead of just spamming templates, I don't think you should be doing this at all. What negative reviewer will read one of these and say “oh, I get it now! I'm going back in!”? It's quite strange.

Anyway, if you want to read a real defense of Starfield and why I like it, you can check out my review here.
