Google releases 'fix' for deleted Google Drive files

If the recovery process starts, you will see a “Recovery Started” and a “Recovery Completed” notification once all lost files are restored. Once the recovery is complete, you will see a new folder on your desktop with the unsynced files named Google Drive Recovery.

If you receive one “Not enough disk space”, you should free up some disk space and go through the process again.

Google advises those who are having trouble recovering their lost files to submit feedback using it #DFD84 while ensuring that the option to log diagnostic files is selected.

They can also try restoring their files from a Drive desktop account backup using the command-line tool that comes with Drive desktop version or later, using the instructions available here. The company also suggests recovering files from Windows or macOS Time Machine backups.

Recovery doesn't work for everyone

Unfortunately, Google's solution did not work for all affected customers, leaving some unable to recover their lost files.

While some users completed the process recommended by Google, they did get a warning that some files could not be recovered.
