Google releases 'fix' for deleted Google Drive files

Η λέει ότι εντόπισε και διόρθωσε ένα σφάλμα που προκάλεσε την εξαφάνιση των αρχείων πελατών που προστέθηκαν στο after April-May 2023. However, the fix does not work for all affected users.

The Google Drive team attributed users' data loss issues to a sync issue and said it only affected "a limited subset" using Drive desktop app versions v84.0.0.0 – 84.0.4.0.

"We identified the issue affecting a small subset of Drive for desktop users in version 84, which only affected local file changes that had not yet been synced to Drive," Google he said on November 29, two days after the error was confirmed.

"This issue did not affect any file changes that were already synced and visible in the Drive mobile app or the Drive web UI."

Although it describes it as a synchronization issue affecting its cloud-based storage service, the company says that affected customers can use the desktop app to “retrieve” local files that have not yet been synced to Drive.

To do this, you need to download Drive desktop version 85.0.13.0 or later, click settings while pressing and holding the Shift key, and then click “Restore from backups ” which will appear under a new hidden dialog.

If the recovery process starts, you will see a “Recovery Started” and a “Recovery Completed” notification once all lost files are restored. Once the recovery is complete, you will see a new folder on your desktop with the unsynced files named Google Drive Recovery.

If you receive one “Not enough disk space”, you should free up some disk space and go through the process again.

Google advises those who are having trouble recovering their lost files to submit feedback using it #DFD84 while ensuring that the option to log diagnostic files is selected.

They can also try restoring their files from a Drive desktop account backup using the command-line tool that comes with Drive desktop version 85.0.13.0 or later, using the instructions available here. The company also suggests recovering files from Windows or macOS Time Machine backups.

Recovery doesn't work for everyone

Unfortunately, Google's solution did not work for all affected customers, leaving some unable to recover their lost files.

While some users completed the process recommended by Google, they did get a warning that some files could not be recovered.

"Emailed solution to restore from backup says backup not found", one user he said. "Now I have no prospect of a solution and when I sent an email to the support team I got an automatic reply on how to find a file in the recycle bin."

A customer added“It's not possible to contact a real person on Google Drive, which is the most infuriating thing I've ever experienced! All troubleshooting solutions suggest 'user error', but from just reading this thread, that's clearly not the case.”

In addition to not being able to contact a Google support employee, customers on the company's support forums are assisted by volunteers who likely have limited information on Google Drive or are unaware of current issues under investigation and possible mitigations, or repairs.

“Google Drive DELETED my files so they are not available for recovery. This “fix” is not a fix,” someone else he saidwhile another asked earlier today, “Is this fix not working for anyone?”

Google Drive users are warned to refrain from accessing the cloud storage until a fix is available for all affected individuals to avoid interfering with future recovery attempts.

It is recommended that you contact her Google, please open a new support ticket and keep an eye out for official announcements on this issue.
