Huawei: “Building” its first European factory in France –
According to a related Reuters report, the company outlined plans for the factory with an initial investment of 200 million euros in 2020, but development has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The source που cited by the publication did not give a timetable for when the factory in Brumath, near Strasbourg, will be operational, and Huawei did not comment on the publication.
The move comes despite some European governments restricting or banning the use of equipment made by Huawei and also China's ZTE, citing data security concerns.
The critical meeting
European leaders are also discussing ways to reduce specific "risks" and work with the world's second-largest economy. It is noted that China is France's third largest trading partner after the European Union and the United States.
The 2020, the French government told telecom operators planning to buy Huawei 5G equipment that they would not be able to renew licenses for the equipment once they expired, effectively barring Huawei from the country's mobile networks.
However, after a meeting with French Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire in Beijing in July, China's Vice President He Lifeng said France had decided to extend Huawei 5G licenses to some cities.
