Watch Taylor Swift sing Kanye's 'Heartless' and 14 other AI covers
Η τεχνητή νοημοσύνη και η music βιομηχανία έχουν μια σwhatγμή, και αυτό»s unclear at this point if it is a large. As AI generators like ChatGPT and DALL-E get better and better, so do AI voice generators – and that's no better example than the rise of completely made-up songs by major artists.
An AI-generated song by Drake and The Weeknd called “Heart on My Sleeve” went viral earlier this month before being pulled from streaming services by record label Universal Music Group. AI language models, possibly like the one used to create "Heart on My Sleeve," learn from large sets of vocal data to match the rhythm and pitch of the singers they're trying to imitate. Unfortunately for record companies, who copyright artists to protect their assets, these datasets are easily accessible on streaming platforms and via purchased or pirated MP3 files.
Around the same time “Heart on My Sleeve” started blowing up, Universal Music Group has pleaded with streaming services such as Spotify to prevent AI from accessing music data. UMG is one of the Big three music companies and has over a third of music industry market share by the end of 2022. UMG represents artists from massive pop superpowers Taylor Swift and Harry Styles to smaller indie bands like CHVRCHES and Clairo.
"I think it's cool to merge with a machine, and I like the idea of open sourcing all art and killing copyright," he said. “We're making a program that should simulate my voice well, but we could also upload stems and samples for ppl to train theirs on,Grimes added.
Despite the controversy, fans of some artists are using AI to create covers of their favorites by singing other songs. For example, we have Ariana Grande singing Taylor Swift's "Cardigan" and Ye and Drake singing Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion's "WAP." Scroll to see more impressive examples of AI-generated song covers—results may vary.
