ERT3 – "Back to Chernobyl"
On the occasion of the 37th anniversary of the largest nuclear power stationfood on the planet, ERT3 will show her Wednesday 26 April at 23.30 the documentary by award-winning director Roman Shumunov; «Money back στο Τσερνόμπιλ/Back to Chernobyl».
This is a trek in Pripyat, the ghost town of the north Ukraines that was abandoned after the explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant on April 26, 1986. The filmmakers meet some of the survivors there, who briefly returned to the site of the disaster to share stories and experiences.
A senior engineer who was on the reactor construction team, a hospital obstetrician, an 11-year-old girl who was forced to leave Pripyat, a firefighter at nuclear power station number 4 and an officer responsible for removing radioactive waste from the reactor roof are some of the people the camera follows.
Next to the destroyed houses, they unfold their stories and dive deep into their traumas, in an effort to understand what exactly happened and what their own role was. They are all everyday people who heroically stood on the front lines of a war against an invisible enemy.
