The first quarter of 2024 brings an alarming increase in cyber attacks on Greece, marking an increase of 43% compared to the previous year. This challenging number is an indication of the need to strengthen the measures better safetyand also indicates the seriousness of the cyber attacks we face.
Check Point Research's analysis reveals a generalized increase in cyber-attacks worldwide, with the first quarter of 2024 recording a 28% increase compared to the corresponding space of 2023. This escalating trend is a warning of the severity of the problem.
Globally, Education/Research emerges as the industry with the highest number of attacks, followed by Government/Military and Healthcare. Also of note is the fact that the hardware supplier sector saw a 37% year-on-year increase, underscoring the seriousness of the situation.
At the same time, the response to attacks varies by region. While Africa saw a 20% increase in attacks, Latin America reported a 20% decrease, indicating variations in attacks by region.
The ransomware remains one of the main problems, with North America experiencing the majority of these types of attacks. It is indicative that ransomware attacks on Europe and Africa increased significantly in the previous year.
In the manufacturing and communications sectors, ransomware attacks increased by 96% and 177% respectively year-on-year, underscoring the severity of the problem.
Omer Dembinsky, Director of Data Research at Check Point Software, expresses concern about the growth of this phenomenon and urges all organizations to strengthen their security measures and implement preventive strategies using artificial intelligence.
