Η Insta360 molhan never stops innovating! She recently presented her latest camera 360-degree action, the X4, which impresses with its capabilities. Perhaps the most significant upgrade this new $500 camera offers over its predecessor, the X3, is the ability to capture video in resolution 8K at 30 frames per second.
This extra boost in resolution and detail will come in handy for watching action videos on larger screens than your mobile, browsing 360-degree footage on platforms like YouTube, or choosing the perspective you like best from a 360-degree recording. In addition, the X4 features a new battery 2.290mAh that lasts for 75 minutes of recording in 8K and 135 minutes in 5.7K.
The X4 camera also supports recording at 5.7K at 60fps, as well as 4K at 100fps (the X3 was limited to 5.7K at 30fps and 4K at 60fps). Like the older models, there is a mode that allows you to shoot using only one lens, if you do not want to shoot 360-degree video (in this case, the resolution will be 4K at 60 frames per second).
The X4 features a larger 2,5-inch touchscreen than its predecessor, made of scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass.
Similar to the X3, the X4 can take 72-megapixel photos. The new camera also features Me Mode, which shoots 180-degree video that conveniently hides your selfie stick. Unlike the X3, the X4's Me Mode is available in both 4K and 2.7K.
The camera's detachable lens protector could be a game-changer for shooting in harsher weather conditions and environments, offering the fragile lens an extra layer of protection. Unlike what some users have experienced with the lenses that stick to the X3's lens, the company claims that its detachable lens won't interfere with the stitching process of 360-degree videos.
Upgrade or keep X3?
While the Insta360 X4 impresses with its capabilities, especially 8K recording, some X3 users may be wondering if the upgrade is worth it. If you already own the X3 and your needs are met, perhaps an upgrade is not necessary. However, if you are looking for the latest technology and the highest possible video resolution, then the X4 is a tempting choice.
