In an unfortunate development for our digital lives, Greece has fallen to last place in terms of landline speeds Internet in Europe, according to the latest figures from Ookla, the company behind the popular Speedtest.
Specifically, the waist speed download in Greece it fell to 49.94 Mbps in March 2024, from 50.12 Mbps in February, signaling a worrying stagnation. At the same time, a small drop was also observed in upload speeds, with an average of 9.44 Mbps, while the ping remained constant at 11 ms.
These disappointing results bring Greece to 102th position of the world ranking, below countries such as Kazakhstan, Mauritius and El Salvador. It is worth noting that at the beginning of the year, our country was in 97th place, underlining the negative turn the situation has taken.
The downgrading of Greece to the bottom of the European internet speed table is a blow to our digital progress and raises questions about the investments and policies implemented in the sector. The existence of reliable and fast internet is now of vital importance for the orderly functioning of the economy, education and the daily life of citizens.
The need for immediate and substantial actions on the part of the state and service providers is imperative, with the aim of upgrading the infrastructure and providing faster and better quality connections at affordable prices. Only in this way will Greece be able to cover the lost ground and keep up with the demands of the digital age.
